Friday night picture

Following this weeks modern theme, we have up to the minute picture's of the latest developments in colour scheme's (thanks to Doug Johnston for the use of these)

Is it the die hards from Toll trying to make the Corn-Cob scheme look good? Or a deeper conspiracy involving the Monks of Kato Blue (there's a good name for a rock band. I went to school with a guy who now fronts a Japanese punk rock band called 'Tripod Jimmy').

I must admit I do prefer the new Kiwirail livery, or maybe its just because I'm distracted by newly painted shiny things.

Admired one of these travelling between Waimate and Timaru - "Here's a train kids!" - pity it was leading an ugly black TR. Spoiled the effect somewhat.

If its a competition between the "new" and "old" KR liveries, I would say I have to prefer the old...especially the one worn by 5137 with the yellow cab.

If Reid Mcnaught can get away with calling the Toll paint scheme something daft like "corncob" then I shall gleen a name from the USA to name the new KR scheme "vomit bonnets" !!!
After initial dissapointment that they did not do something in black, I have become a fan of the old (!) KR paint scheme as applied to 5097 etc, and wont publically mention possible places the "new" KR scheme could end up....

I always thought KiwiBonds had dubbed the Toll colours "Vomit Bonnets"...And if you ask the Head Druff nicely enough, he might just post something in Black!! :-)

There's a nice shot of Dft 7008 at Mangamanu on Kiwibonds site, under NZ temp pics. Sporting the ficticious "All Blacks" scheme - something refreshingly different from corncobs or vomit !

Despite our best efforts (including numerous advances to those in the upper echelons in KiwiRail), the "All Black" scheme will (unfortunately) just remain a "what if?"...
