Get some isoprop alcohol and pipettes. You'll be glad you did.x
It might even be useful for ballasting!!

amazing difference with the ballast. looks like a hugh area taken at that angle
Sorry DB, its a non drinking night.
I'll go with the good old water and detergent I think, followed by dilute PVA.
Whatever method is being used to stick the ballast down, I'd highly recommend it. That ballasting is as good as the prototype - something very seldom achieved on model railways.
