out and about

On my way to work each morning I have noticed that I cross an old level crossing. This is part of the old Wellington and Manawatu alignment, and was replaced in the 1960's with a new bridge about 200m further downstream. Today the old mainline is a cow path.

Can you point this out on a Google map?

The link is at http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=-40.406732,175.555258&spn=0.018104,0.052314&t=h&z=15.

Not sure how to extract the photo. the line in question crosses Weld st just south of the collection of buildings (AKA 'work'). the lines of pine trees on both sides of the river indicate the old lines. theres also a short siding off to the Linton prison/army base.

Yes, this was where the new bridge was opened in October 1960 just south of Longburn. The remainder of the line becoming the Linton Army Camp siding.
