Son of "DFT in a day" - part 2

Perhaps "DFT in a year" may be more appropriate.

And its not really the DFT this time either, well not the laser cut bits anyway.

After our Long Island branch kicked off with the impressive DX bogie sideframes, it was decided we had better follow suit with the DFT version (or DF if you prefer).
So after a bit of mucking around with CAD (and a few emails and some gold bullion later) we have some results.

I'm impressed...

And a closeup

These are designed to drop on top of the sideframes on the Kato SD40-2 using the same "file flat" method as Kiwibond's DX sideframe replacement.

Borrowed bogies, so I couldn't really butcher them, although I could
probably use sideframes as compensation

Comparison with the DX version.

As for cost we are potentially able to get it down to approximately $15-$18 per set if enough sets are ordered (I haven't done the exact maths as yet).

Anyone interested?

Anyone interested ?

YES PLEASE ! (but you already knew that anyway, right... ?) I'm interested in 10 sets, thank you...

my eagle eye discovered something unusual, what wheels are in the Kato truck (sorry, bogie) on the left ?

'horni' (no further comment)

The wheels are NWSL HO scale 28" code 64 wheels.
Cut down to half axles with new sleeves to join everything together.
Still very much an experimental work in progress...

interesting, how big are the wheels on the EMD DF and how big on the GE DX in natura ?

940 mm for both, from memory....

I just noticed on the close up pic that because of the 'flip' to make bogies for the 'other side' (this is obviously one) that "DOFASCO" is mirrored backwards.

Don't think that will be a huge problem for naked-eye viewing!

"DOFASCO" is mirrored backwards - talking about eagle eye ey ? ;-))

The "Dofasco" is a bit blobby and hard to read. Can't you use a better RP technology?

maybe with resin in opaque yellow ?

cheers...

I knew the "Dofasco" would be mirrored, but given that it isn't really readable even under magnification I figured we could live with it.
Apart from that Kiwibonds I figure it's only because you are familiar with the RP methodology and you knew what I was up to with the bogie that you noticed :-)
