Down at the Depot

Drew has passed along these photo's (taken by Bruce Rogers) which I was quite taken by. Its the New Plymouth loco depot in 1988.

'Tomatoes awayyyy'

The small provincial loco depots were mostly the remnants of the steam age, with only a few (Oamaru) being built new in the 70's. There are several photo's I've seen in books taken from the other end of the depot which I must hunt out. The depot itself is located 1/2 way between the port and the main station which would make a great setup. Several modules dedicated to a depot like thiswould make a great place to display a collection of loco's (both steam and diesel).

I'm not sure where you get the photo's for your blog from but its hard not to be inspired and get behind the modelling desk.
Hope you find one of Marton's loco shed in the 80's.

The sand tower in the second photo is still in use at Smart Road (New Plymouth)and I believe is a relic from the 50's.

Hey Michael, I have pics of the Marton Depot, I'll send them to the head Druff and he can pass them on to you.
I plan to model this shed as well!

How about starting a thread with everyones favorite loco depot photo's over at Nz120. That would make far more sense, and everyone could look at them.
