I've been reading old posts on the 2mm yahoogroup. There is a sizable amount of discussion about running finescale wheels on non finescale track. apparently its possible if you are using track built to NMRA standards, but peco points are a different matter entirely.
The inner finescaler is having a bit of a scary time as the group is quite happy talking in tenths of a millimeter which is a wee bit outside of his comfort (or eyesight) zone

I think the accuracy you work to is governed by your tools. If you have a decent set of Verns (Verniers? callipers??) that measure to a 10th of a mm, you will find yourself making that your level of accuracy because you can. Same if you are turning on a lathe that has graduated dials.
The 2mm Association has just announced in their latest mag this product:
2-222 Axles to convert Farish RP 25 wheels Into Association Standard pinpoints ON 12.25mm axles £ 1.60 set 4
This is designed to convert the latest Farish spoked wheel to Association standard axles. Warning that you need to make sure it's the latest wheels, older Farish ones are thicker and if you use them, they will foul the top hat bearings that the axlepoints run in.
Could this be the answer to some of those gripes about waaaay overlong axles?
